Prof Richard Mackay, AM - GA2023 Convenor

Richard Mackay is the Director of Possibilities at Mackay Strategic Pty Ltd, ICOMOS World Heritage Adviser, Member of the National Executive Committee of Australia ICOMOS, Adjunct Professor in the Archaeology Program at La Trobe University, and Commissioner of the NSW Independent Planning Commission. With more than 30 years’ experience in cultural heritage practice, Richard was co-founder and Partner at GML Heritage Pty Ltd, and has provided facilitation and strategic direction for heritage projects and place management throughout Australia and in Asia, working for government and non-government agencies and corporations at places ranging from Angkor, Cambodia to Sydney’s Luna Park. Richard has formerly served as Chair of the Australian World Heritage Advisory Committee, Chair of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area Advisory Committee, heritage theme author for the 2011 and 2016 Commonwealth State of the Environment reports, non-Executive Director of the National Trust of Australia (NSW), Member of the NSW Heritage Council, inaugural Chair of the NSW State Heritage Register Committee, and Getty Conservation Scholar. Richard had been honoured with the inaugural ‘Sharon Sullivan Award’ for his contribution to Australia’s national heritage, a National Trust voluntary service medallion and Membership of the Order of Australia for services to archaeology and cultural heritage. Richard was the Chair of the Bid Committee for the successful Australia ICOMOS bid to host GA 2020/23.

Jacqueline Anderson – GA2023 Social Media Focal Point

Jacqueline Anderson, B. Archaeology (La Trobe University), M. Cultural Heritage (Deakin University), M. World Heritage (BTU), is a graduate of the Deakin University and Brandenburg University of Technology (Germany) dual award program. She is an emerging professional, who begun working in the industry in 2017.

In 2020, Jacqueline joined the GHD heritage team as an archaeologist, and has worked on number of Aboriginal and historical (non-Aboriginal) heritage assessments and cultural heritage management plans. Jacqueline has worked on sites located within Victoria, interstate and internationally. She is a registered Heritage Advisor in Victoria.

Jacqueline is passionate about sites associated with diseases and has a keen interest in highlighting underrepresented values at historical sites to visitors. She is interested in using new technologies to aid heritage assessments and has previously used social media to look at site values identified by visitors.

Peter Phillips – ICOMOS International

Peter Phillips is the Secretary General of ICOMOS. He was previously a Vice-President of ICOMOS, and is also a past President of Australia ICOMOS. In his spare time he is the principal of Orwell & Peter Phillips, an architectural practice that has been active in building conservation since the 1950s. Peter has degrees in architecture and building science from the University of Sydney, and lectures on conservation and heritage to post-graduate students in the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building, University of Technology Sydney. He has undertaken conservation work on some of Australia’s most significant sites, including Fort Denison, the Australian Museum and Sydney Customs House, as well as several properties in The Rocks and Millers Point and a number of historic railway stations. He has served as a heritage adviser to government at local, State and Commonwealth levels. In 2011 Peter was made a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects for his contribution to architectural conservation.

Felicity Watson – Wyndham City Council

With a multidisciplinary approach across heritage, history, and urban planning, Felicity is passionate about advocating for the protection of places with special value to communities, and promoting the contribution that heritage conservation can make to vibrant, liveable, and sustainable cities. As an advocate, she also actively works to expand professional and public conceptions of heritage to be more relevant and inclusive. Felicity is currently the Heritage Coordinator at Wyndham City Council, one of Australia’s fastest growing municipalities. She was previously the Executive Manager, Advocacy, at the National Trust of Australia (Victoria). 

Natalia Antiqueira - Getty | AICOMOS National Scientific Committee of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Natalia Antiqueira is a Master of Cultural Heritage graduate and Researcher at Getty Images, where she works in safeguarding living heritage through the power of images that move the world. Natalia has developed the master plan of the Dinosaurs Trail at Bass Coast Shire Council and has worked multiple projects overtaking research for intangible cultural heritage – whilst maintaining her enthusiasm for creativity in heritage interpretation and cultural landscapes. Since 2018, Natalia has been Coord Member of Australia ICOMOS National Scientific Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage and Place and currently acts as Convenor as well as Head of Communications.

Karen Rivera - Museums of History NSW

Karen Rivera is Head of Audience & Marketing at Museums of History NSW (MHNSW), a state cultural institution which is an agency of the NSW Department of Enterprise, Investment and Trade. Karen has more than 25 years experience in audience insights and marketing across roles in the market research, advertising and media, and cultural sectors. Karen has a passion for history and heritage, which lured her to MHNSW, formerly Sydney Living Museums, in 2014. The organisation cares for the vast archives and records in the NSW State Archives Collection along with 12 historic sites across NSW and their collections, including the World Heritage listed Hyde Park Barracks. Karen works alongside a team of dedicated professionals to promote public interest in, and appreciation of, our cultural heritage and its preservation for current and future generations.

Andrew Siu – NSW Department of Planning and Environment, Saving our Species

Andrew Siu is a Principal Project Officer at Saving our Species, which is part of the Biodiversity and Conservation Division of NSW Department of Planning and Environment. He was formerly Regional Sales and Development Manager NSW & Victoria at Qantas and brings over two decades of market development, stakeholder management and business innovation experience to the team. Andrew holds a Master of Business Administration Global and brings a unique set of skills to adapt and lead through uncertainty, manage ambiguity and to solve complex problems. Andrew is also a self-confessed heritage geek and is passionate about all things good for people and planet. “We are so blessed to live in a country with some of the oldest landscapes on the planet, is rich with unique cultural heritage and some of the most well recognised structures. To be part of a team delivering a legacy to the recognition, protection and management of cultural and natural heritage and for communities that value and care for it is a real privilege.
